Vanessa L. McGann, PhD

Dr. Vanessa McGann is a clinical psychologist specializing in grief and loss in children, adolescents and adults. She has a focus in traumatic loss, particularly loss to suicide, and has specific training in the treatment of complicated bereavement.

                                                     

In addition, Dr. McGann has extensive experience in treatments for anxiety, depression and suicidal behaviors in children, adolescents and adults. In her work, Dr. McGann utilizes cognitive behavioral (CBT), dialectical behavior treatment (DBT) and insight-oriented psychotherapy, as well as short- and long-term treatment models—depending          on the specific needs of the individual.

Dr. McGann’s practice also focuses on helping adolescents transition to emerging adulthood and develop strong identities to master the challenges of this developmental stage.  She has had extensive experience with college students and, in addition to her private practice, is on staff as well as the Assistant Director of Extern Training at the New School college counseling center.
